 DATABASE SEARCH IN LITERATURE


The most likely place to find journal, articles is in databases that index journal articles both in  print from and on CD-ROMS.   A Google search can also often lead to timely articles and discussions on educational topics. A more careful and monitored approach is to examine one of the many literature databases. By examining these databases,you can access hundreds of journal articles on educational topics. Computerized databases also facilitatesearching the literature for conference papers and miscellaneous publications such as papers from professional associations or educational agencies You might start a computerized search of the databases with educational data ,followed by the psychological and sociological sources of education.

Six important databases offer easy retrieval of journal articles and other documents related to education

  • ERIC

  •  Psychological abstracts

  • Sociological abstracts and the  CD-ROM versions

  • The social science citation index

  • EBSCO information services

  • Dissertation abstracts


ERIC (The Education Resource Information Center)

    

It is an online digital library of education research and information.The mission of ERIC is to provide a comprehensive, easy to use, searchable, internet-based bibliographic and full text database of education research and information for educators, researchers and the general public.Public monies supported the development of ERIC,so we can search the ERIC database free of charge.


Psychological abstracts and CD-ROM versions


These are important sources for locating research articles on topics broadly related to psychology.This databases are available in a print version, on CD-ROM and on a websiteThey provide bibliographic citations, abstracts for psychological journal articles, dissertation, technical reports, books and the book chapters published world wide.


Sociological abstracts


It is available in a print version,on CD-ROM,and in a library learned web version available to computers networked to the library.This database provides access to the world's literature in sociology and related disciplines.The database contains abstracts of journal articles selected from more than 2500 journals, abstracts of conference papers presented at sociological association meeting, dissertation, and books and book reviews from 1963 to present


The Social Science Citation Index


It provide a database of cited references to journal articles. SSCI covers 5,700 journals, representing virtually every discipline in the social science


EBSCO Information service


It is a worldwide information service that provides print and electronic subscription services, research database development and production, and online access to more than 150 databases .Academic libraries purchase the services of EBSCO or individuals can purchase articles of interest through the pay-per-view features.


Dissertation Abstracts


 It provide guides to doctoral dissertations submitted by nearly 500 participating institutions throughout the world. It is published in three sections: 

Section A, The Humanities and Social Sciences; 

Section B, The Sciences and Engineering; and 

Section C, Worldwide. 

By examining these sections, a researcher finds abstracts of dissertations.
